Henderson Waves – Pedestrian bridge in the Southern Ridges

If you’re Singaporean, you’ve definitely heard of Henderson Waves. This giant structure in the South of Singapore, which lowkey resembles a DNA strand, is a famous photo spot thanks to its unique build and chio views.

It’s also a popular pitstop for those hiking the Southern Ridges trail. So lace up your walking shoes and stroll along this breathtaking bridge for some cute pics of your own.

There are 4 carparks at Mount Faber: Carpark D, Telok Blangah Hill Park Carpark 1, 2, and 3.

How to walk from Hort Park to Henderson Waves?

The Alexandra Garden Trail links Hort Park to Henderson Waves. To locate the trail, enter via the carpark at Hort Park. Walk through the flower garden and you’ll reach the Garden Trail.

Wave-like bridge connecting Mount Faber & Telok Blangah Hill Parks

Built back in 2008, Henderson Waves was part of a government initiative to create more green spaces across the Southern part of Singapore.

The 274m-long bridge connects Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park, part of the Southern Ridges trail. But its stunning structure – made of steel frames that look like they’re rising and falling, similar to a wave – is what makes it special.

Oh, did we mention that the structure of the bridge was designed with the help of Maths? Yep, that’s right, a complex formula helped to derive that each “wavelength” should spread 21m. Every peak also rises and falls at a specific angle to reduce any possible contact with the surrounding greenery.

The bridge’s architecture itself is already quite the deal. You’ll actually be walking 36m above Henderson Road, on some Malaysian-imported Balau wooden planks. These planks were specially chosen to reflect and blend in with the natural forest surroundings.

An open-air spot to chill or exercise

Avid hikers have probably walked this trail to clock in some steps and reach the other side. Cyclists crossing this bridge also need to dismount and push their bikes, so use this chance to chill at the benches and enjoy this serene location.

That’s not the only purpose of Henderson Waves. The bridge offers a panorama of the Keppel Bay marina on one side and town views of Bukit Merah on the other. It towers over the surrounding greenery and has stunning sunset views.

People even flock here just to bird-watch, hang out with their friends, or go on a date while soaking in the surrounding nature.

Henderson Waves is open 24/7, so we’d recommend dropping by on weekdays to avoid the weekend crowd. Adding on to your already cool experience, the bridge is illuminated in LED lights from 7pm-2am every night, so you can even head down for a stroll after work.

Continue your hike to Faber Point

Say you’re coming from Telok Blangah Hill Park and crossing Henderson Waves Bridge, continue down this trail to Faber Point that’s just 9 minutes ahead. At the peak of Mount Faber, you’ve got some 360-degree views of Keppel Harbour and glimpses of the Singapore Cable Car.

Walk down a short flight of steps and you’ll find some 16 murals depicting a story of Singapore’s history. These aren’t your regular murals though; they’re carved from bronze copper.

At this point, your legs must be getting wobbly from all that walking, so treat yourself to a nice cable car trip for your journey back. The ride takes you from Mount Faber to Harbourfront Cable Car Station before heading to Sentosa, which means more scenic nature views. If you’re planning to do this route, note that tickets are $29.70/adult and $19.80/child.

The stunning architecture of Henderson Waves is just something you don’t see every day. So, whether you’re exploring the parks within the Southern Ridges trail or admiring the breathtaking vistas, a walk across this bridge will definitely give you overseas vibes.

Getting there:
By foot: Start at Telok Blangah Park and hike towards Mount Faber. Or, start at Mount Faber Park and hike towards Telok Blangah Park before heading to HortPark further ahead.
By bus: Take buses 124, 131, 145, 176 or 273. Alight at “Bef Telok Blangah Hts” bus stop and walk up the stairs leading to the bridge.
By MRT: Take the green line and stop at Redhill Station (EW18). Then take a 10-minute walk to “Bef Telok Blangah Hts” bus stop and walk up the stairs leading to the bridge.
