Did Facebook disable your account for no reason? If you didn't violate Facebook's community policies, you can easily submit an appeal to recover your disabled account. Once you provide your name, ID, and other information through the form, Facebook will decide whether to restore your account. We'll show you how to ask Facebook to review and reactivate your account and teach you how to restore an account you deactivated yourself.

Recovering Your Personal Facebook Account if Disabled

  • If you see "Your account has been disabled" when signing in to Facebook, check your email to find out if you're eligible to appeal.
  • If prompted to submit an appeal, you will need to verify your phone number, submit a selfie, and sometimes provide a photo ID.
  • If you disabled your own account, you can restore it by logging back in to Facebook.

Method 1

Method 1 of 2:

If Facebook Disabled Your Account

Download Article

  1. 1

Make sure Facebook disabled your account. Go to https://www.facebook.com and log in with your username and password. If you see a message that says "Your account has been disabled," you may be able to submit an appeal to have it recovered.

  2. 2

Check your email for more information about your suspension. When Facebook disables your account due to a violation, they'll email the address on file with more details, including the length of your suspension, and whether you can appeal the decision. If you're eligible to submit an appeal, you'll see the option to do so in the email from Facebook.[2]

    • If your account is only disabled temporarily, the email will inform you of the length of time it will take to access it again.
    • If you don't see an email from Facebook, check your Spam or Trash folder.

  3. 3

Click or tap the Appeal link to begin your appeal. While there used to be a direct appeal form to recover your account, Facebook has deleted it. If you believe your account was disabled in error, look for an Appeal button or link at the bottom of the email from Facebook. You'll also see the button or link after you log in to your account.

    • Not all suspensions are eligible for appeal. If you cannot appeal the decision, your only option is to create a new account.
    • You must submit an appeal within 180 days of suspension to be considered for reactivation.
  4. 4

Provide the requested information to Facebook. During the appeal process, you'll be asked to submit information that confirms your identity. In most cases, you'll need to confirm your phone number by verifying a code and submit a selfie. You may also be asked to submit other information, such as a photo ID.

    • If photo ID is required, take a photo of your driver's license, birth certificate, learner's permit, immigration card, tribal identification or status card, official name change paperwork, passport, or other government ID as prompted.[3]
    • If you are using a computer, you can take a selfie and/or photo of your ID with your phone and transfer the image(s) to your computer.
  5. 5

Upload more information if requested by Facebook. If Facebook needs more information to make their final decision on your account, they'll let you know via email or text message. You'll have 30 days from receiving the follow-up email from Facebook to provide the requested documentation for reactivation. If you miss the 30-day deadline, your account will be permanently disabled.

    • In some cases, you will not hear back from Facebook after submitting your appeal. If you don't receive an email, try logging in again to see if the suspension has been lifted.

Method 2 of 2:

If You Disabled Your Own Account

  1. 1

Log back into Facebook with your account. If you disabled your own account, you can recover it by logging in using the Facebook mobile app or at https://www.facebook.com.[4]

    • If you chose the option to permanently delete your account, you'll only have a 30-day window during which you can reactivate.
    • If it's been more than 30 days since you marked your account for permanent deletion, you can't get it back.[5] Create a new Facebook account instead.
    • If you don't remember your password, click Forgot Password? and follow the on-screen instructions to reset it.
  2. 2

Click Cancel Deletion if prompted. If you deleted your account and it's been fewer than 30 days since doing so, this reactivates your account.[6]

Facebook often disables accounts for using fake names, spamming, using hate speech, threatening other users, or otherwise violating their terms of use. If you can't sign in to Facebook because they've disabled your account, you can request an investigation using Facebook's official investigation form (https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/logout?id=260749603972907). Enter the email address or phone number associated with your account, and then the full name you used on Facebook. Next, upload a scan or photo of a government-issued ID, such as a passport or state ID card. In the "Additional info" area, describe the incident and explain why Facebook should restore your account. Click Send to send your appeal to Facebook. Within a day or two, Facebook will send you an email message informing you of their decision. For tips on how to submit an appeal if Facebook has disabled your account, read on!
