What Is Resident Evil 4?

The new Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the original, which debuted on GameCube in 2005. Much like the incredibly successful (and incredibly fun) remakes of RE2 and RE3, this one takes the dated core game and updates it in just about every way imaginable.

The result should be fantastic, both because the previous REmakes were excellent (see IGN’s Resident Evil 2 review and Resident Evil 3 review), and because the original RE4 is widely considered one of the best video games of all time.

So is this game worth buying? Almost certainly yes, unless you don't do horror games. In our 10/10 Resident Evil 4 Remake review, our critic writes, "Its combat is friction-free but no less stress-inducing thanks to its ferocious cast of creatures, its story rapidly shuttles through a series of action scenes that are diverse in structure but uniformly unwavering in intensity, and its world is rich in detail and full of fun and often snarling surprises."
